Reputation system upgrade
Since the beginning of BGA, red/green thumbs allow you to tell the community that a particular player is respectful/disrespectful of the spirit of this website. This system is 100% subjective, but has a big advantage: you can use it when something wrong happens that is not explicitly forbidden by the website rules, but kills the spirit of this website (ex: poor loser, very unpleasant on the chat...). To conclude, this is a very practical system, and when you look at your opponents red/green thumbs, you know more or less what to expect. However, a very little number of players were misusing this system, by giving red thumbs to players for very personal reasons like "this player is too good for me". This is why we decided to change this system a little bit to make it more reliable:
-
As almost all players on BGA are respectful and polite, we consider there is no need to give more than 1 red thumb every 4 green thumbs given. So, we are now limiting the number of red thumbs to this ratio (which will increase in the future if needed).
-
If you don't want to play anymore with a specific player for a personal reason, we encourage you to use the new "write a personal comment" for this player. This comment is for your eyes only, and will allow you to remember why you don't want to play with this player any more without reporting him to the whole community.
-
Now you have to confirm before giving a red thumb, so we can remind you why red thumbs exist and how to use them properly.
-
When you play your first game of a new game, you can't receive any red thumb (beginner's protection).
By the way, we also "cleaned" inappropriate red thumbs: we removed red thumbs from players who were misusing the system by giving too many red thumbs in respect to green.
With these improvements, we'd like to make the BGA reputation system more reliable, and we hope this will contribute to help you to find respectful opponents for your games.
